Your Brain On Fiction


New research has shown that reading fiction stimulates your brain in important and unexpected ways. Beliefs long-held by librarians and teachers about the intrinsic value of reading stories could now be backed up by the latest findings in neuroscience. Anne Murphy Paul reports, “brain scans are revealing what happens in our heads when we read a detailed description, an evocative metaphor or an emotional exchange between characters.
