Mary Shelley Born on this day in 1797


Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was born on this day in 1797. Best known as the author of Frankenstein, arguably the world’s first Science-Fiction novel, she was the daughter of the English intellectuals William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft and wife to the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Her influence on literature, particularly the later period of Gothic literature and popular culture through her most famous novel can hardly be overestimated.
