It has been announced that master story-teller Stephen King will publish a sequel to his 1977 horror classic The Shining in September 2013. The new novel, Doctor Sleep will feature the adult Danny Torrance (the psychically gifted little boy from the first book). King’s 1977 novel, his third published book and the first to be come a hardback bestseller was subsequently made into the iconic film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick in 1980.
Derek also happily signed a stack of copies of his first novel which will be up for grabs as prizes in our Book Week Champion’s Read dress-up competition this Thursday. Derek rushed from Cabra to the airport to catch a flight to Perth in order to complete the Australia and New Zealand leg of his current tour. His welcome visit to South Australia for this exclusive event was thanks to Pages and More Bookshop, Glenelg, his Australian publishers Harper Collins and the Cabra Library and Drama Department Staff.
The event went off without a hitch and both Cabra College and Pages and More hope this is just the first in a long series of similar author events to be held here. It was simply a fantastic start to Book Week in this our National Year of Reading and so brilliant to see this many enthusiastic readers on a Saturday at the School.
